Stands
and Looks Back or Hakikta Najin (1851-1914) was
actually an Oglala through he lived all of his later life
among the Brule at Rosebud. He was present at the Little
Bighorn in 1876. His sister married Charles P. Jordan,
the clerk at the Red Cloud Agency in 1877 at the time
of Crazy Horse's surrender; Jordan was later a trader
on the Rosebud Reservation.
Stands
and Looks Back married Mary Spotted Horse about 1890 and
had a large family. He was photographed several times
by Anderson. His granddaughter, Vera Farmer, served as
vice-chair of the Rosebud Sioux council. —
